Warm-weather adventure
According to data collected by Squaremouth, a travel insurance company, warm-weather adventures are at the top of people’s travel itineraries for 2025. Sales for adventure travel insurance policies increased by 18% over 2024. Consumers crave skiing the slopes, hiking and trekking, going on safari, snorkeling, scuba diving, and horseback riding.
Ashley Wali of Wanderlux says, “On a trip through Argentina, I hiked on the Perito Moreno Glacier in the southern town of El Calafate. Being up close with a glacier was a bucket list item for me, and it was so memorable to see how deep blue the ice can be and to watch a small section calve off and crash into the water.”
Female thrill-seeking travel
Never underestimate the need for women to travel the world. According to data from Conde Nast Traveler, more than half of travelers booking adventure travel are now female. Women are driving the demand for experiences they’ll never forget, and these experiences tend to be more inclusive and tailored to individual wants and needs.
Athletic adventures
Adventure travel data shows that this is a worldwide trend. Eighteen percent of Brits are looking for vacations that include sports activities. Searches for workout holidays have increased by 50%. Consumers are actively trying to avoid gaining those extra pounds that often come with a more relaxed vacation.
Emese Maczko of Eco Lodges Anywhere says, “I did rafting, tubing and waterfall rappelling for the first time in Costa Rica. Three firsts in one trip! At first, I was nervous, completely out of my element, but the guides quickly put me at ease. Once the adrenaline kicked in, I let go of my fears and embraced the experience. Rafting in the rainforest was amazing, we even stopped at a natural pool to take a dip. Tubing felt scarier at first since I was alone in the float, but everything happened how the guide explained it. It was so much fun.”
Longevity and wellness travel
Wellness travel is also leading the pack in 2025. Demand for wellness-focused travel that improves mental and physical health is a trend that won’t be going anywhere anytime soon. Conde Nast data shows that 62% of travelers felt that slow-travel-style trips reduced their stress and anxiety.
Amanda Luhn of Simply Awesome Trips says, “I rented an e-bike and spent five days exploring Islay and Jura, two islands on the west coast of Scotland, last July. Biking gave me a lot of freedom over my itinerary as I could stop for a beautiful view or a whiskey tasting whenever I wanted. It was also much cheaper than a car rental and much easier logistically with the ferries. The islands are small enough that you can easily get between destinations on a bike, and an e-bike meant it was no problem carrying all my luggage with me. It was a fantastic vacation, and I would do it all again this summer if I could.”
Night tourism
Night tourism, also known as noctourism, is becoming a popular focus in 2025. Fifty percent of respondents to a Booking.com survey plan to elevate nighttime pursuits to avoid rising daytime temperatures. Instead of basking in the sun at the beach, they’ll be experiencing local nightlife and enjoying night markets as well as later hours at museums, which are quickly catching on to this trend.
As global temperatures increase, the accelerating demand for late-night activities will continue. Over 60% of surveyed travelers consider visiting areas with limited light pollution for stargazing. Sixty-one percent of respondents want to avoid daytime heat, opting for cooler evening and early morning activities.
Accessible adventure travel
Disabled consumers are increasing the demand for inclusive travel. With their spending power projected to be over $13 trillion globally this year, the need to make adventure travel more inclusive is becoming crucial.
Book-inspired travel
Americans aren’t the only ones booking inspired travel this year. Brits love to visit the places that inspired their favorite books. Seventy-two percent of 2,000 surveyed said a novel inspired them to travel somewhere new. Much of this is driven by social media and cultural trends like BookTok.
Just don’t stay at home
Jen Wooster of Peel with Zeal says, “I solo backpacked the Sierra section of the Pacific Crest Trail, covering 450 miles in 3 1/2 weeks. You rarely get to experience true wilderness in shorter trips. While you encounter other hikers on the trail, the remoteness forces you to embrace solitude. You push yourself mentally and physically while truly disconnecting.”
